(An EXERPT from the Book, “Your Ministry
Matters” AND 30 sec video on book)
As a disciple, a follower, a
fellow climber, your focus is now
twofold. You’re focused on the one
in line ahead of you. A good
leader is an excellent follower. A
good disciple-makers is an excellent disciple-learner. The one you are following as he follows
Christ will be using all he’s been taught and put into practice to teach you,
guide you, and encourage you as together you journey to the Peak, Jesus Christ.
It’s good to know the one who
is helping you to become a disciple believes in you. You know if the need arises, he’ll pull you upward with all
his might. If you weary, he’ll
cheer you on, but he won’t let go of your hand. He’s not your only focus. Filled with thankfulness and love, you keep a keen eye on
the one behind you. You’ll
encourage that one, as you’ve been encouraged. You’ll guide him as you’ve been guided. You’ll teach him as you’ve been
taught. And, if need be, you’ll
pull him along as you’ve been pulled.
You’ll refuse to let go. You know letting go of the one coming
after you means the loss of both him and the one coming after him and the one
coming after him and on and on.
The stakes are too high, and
the love is too strong to deny. Failure isn’t an option. Eyes fixed on the Peak, one hand
stretching forward, and one hand stretching back. Each traveler in the line is on a personal journey, and yet
corporately they travel as one.
A Few Lines From the
Climber’s Handbook (The Bible)
Be ye followers of me, even as
I also am of Christ. 1 Corinthians 11:1
Let each of you look out not
only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Philippians 2:4
Let this mind be in you which
was also in Christ Jesus, Who, being in the form of God, did not consider it
robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the
form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. Philippians 2:5–7
Blessed be the God and Father
of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, Who
comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who
are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by
God. 2 Corinthians 1:3–4
The simplest form of service
(HELPS) and leadership you’ll walk in is helping others as you’ve been helped.
You don’t need to work
anything up or study for years before being used of the Lord as a servant
leader. Just help others with what
you’ve been helped with. Don’t do
it someday. The ministry of helps IS today. What’s nearby and who’s
nearby? What service can you
perform in the name of the Lord?
Can you open a door?
Encourage a brother? Give a
kind word? Comfort a child? Is there some area of your life you’ve
experienced a victory in? Maybe
the Lord has freed you from gossip, drugs, smoking, pornography, or debt. If so, you’re qualified to help another. Do it. The guy behind you is counting on your leadership to help
make him a disciple.
Your ministry matters!
