(An EXERPT from the Book, “Your Ministry
Matters”)
I’m Talking About You
Ah, leaders! Just the mention of the word leader makes some shrink back in fear
and others salivate with desire.
Let’s deal with those who shrink back for now. In reality, every believer is called to be a leader.
We’re not all called to be leaders in
the traditional sense. Some are
called to more official roles than others but nonetheless, all are called to
lead. Okay, PT (Pastor Ted), how do you figure? Well, as a member of the body of
Christ, a couple of leadership roles come to mind. These roles automatically come with the territory.
In the Great Commission, the
leadership role of making disciples is given to all believers. In Matthew 28, Jesus commands those who
are His disciples (you) to make disciples. Part of making disciples is leading them in an
outward profession of faith and baptism, and then teaching these new
disciples to observe all the things Jesus has commanded you—leading them in the truths, duties, and responsibilities of being a
disciple.
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things
that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the
age.” Amen. Matthew 28:19–20
Obviously, before you can
start making disciples, you need to be a part of the process of leading sinners to faith in Jesus
Christ. This is a leadership role
to which all believers are called and will be held accountable for in the
judgment. Sadly, various
statistics say less than five percent of those claiming to be Christians ever
share their faith.
“Now all things
are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has
given us the ministry of reconciliation” 2 Corinthians 5:18.
The other part of the Great Commission is, "Teaching them to OBSERVE". Observe what?
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Acts 2:42
It is teaching these new disciple that they ARE a vital part of the Living, Active, Body of Christ, and as such, EVERY joint supplies and HAS a purpose. Their ministry matters.
