A People Called "THEY"

Who's not familiar with Bible names like Matthew, Mark, Luke, Peter, James, and John.  But, those weren't the only really important people in the Bible.  And, not every important person in the Bible had a name that the Word revealed.  Some really, really vital people were just referred to as "THEY".

Do you know anyone named THEY?  You know who THEY are. Well, maybe you don’t, not many people do. THEY don’t have offices or business cards.  THEY rarely preach from the pulpit.  THEY don’t usually get to hang out with the leadership crowd.  THEY aren’t really the first ones called upon to lead a prayer meeting.  Yet THEY are usually leading the charge in prayer behind the scenes.  THEY are usually the nameless, faceless people faithfully serving out of sight in most of our churches.  THEY are the first to show up to things.  THEY are usually the last to leave.  THEY hardly miss a service.  THEY give in most every offering.  THEY come to all church workdays.  THEY usually are at the top of the list of volunteers to work in the nursery.  THEY have names but are seldom remembered.  THEY clean the bathroom.

 Don’t feel bad.  All throughout the New Testament there were people called THEY, nameless people without whom any semblance of harvest could have been enjoyed, employed, or maintained.  Think for a moment with me, would you?  How many people were in the upper room on the day of Pentecost?  That’s an easy one.  One hundred twenty, right?  Okay then. Why is it when most of us think of who was there on that day, we seem to only be able to call to mind the original twelve, minus Judas, plus Mary, the mother of Jesus?  Do you know who else was there?  You guessed it: THEY. Who were they?  THEY are absolutely vital to the fulfillment of the Lord’s vision.

“Now when the Day of Pentecost had fully come, THEY were all with one accord in one place” (Acts 2:1).

Who was filled with the Holy Spirit on that day?  We’ve all seen the paintings of the twelve, minus Judas, plus Mary, the mother of Jesus, with windblown looks, smiles on their faces, and orderly-looking flames atop their heads.  Who else was filled that day?  You guessed it: THEY.

 “And THEY were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:4).

THEY make up a "part" of the most vital PERSON in the Bible and this world; The Body Of Christ!  Do your part.  Be a THEY!
