Plugged Into the Same Outlet
The same blood that supplies the nutrients and life for my
hands and arms to lift a bucket also provides for my feet and legs to carry me
about and for my brain to reason and think. No matter the task, the blood, common and available to my
entire person, makes every undertaking possible. That which is common and available to the entire body of
Christ is His Living Word as the Holy Spirit administers it. It is the power of God.
“I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God” (Romans 1:16,
KJV).
No matter the ministry task or assignment in the local
church, the power behind it is traced to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the common power
supply for both the pastor and the parking lot attendant. Every gift and calling is plugged into
the same outlet. The same outlet powering the fan that provides the gentle
breeze also powers the saw that rips through timber. In like fashion, though callings and opportunities to serve
may differ, they are all powered by the same source.
Now God gives us many
kinds of special abilities, but it is the same Holy Spirit who is the
source of them all. There are different kinds of service to God, but it is
the same Lord we are serving. There are many
ways in which God works in our lives, but it is the same God who does the work in and through all of us who
are his. The Holy Spirit displays God's
power through each of us as a means of helping the entire church. 1 Corinthians 12:4–7 (TLB)
